School Improvement Process

The Catholic Education Office of the St. Louis Archdiocese directs its elementary schools to undertake “A Process for Elementary School Improvement” every seven years.  Preparation is two years work, the plan covers the next five years, and some goals remain “on-going.”

Given our change in leadership in both the parish and school in the past two years, this process has taken on added importance for us as we address the long-term viability of our school.  The process began in the 2006-2007 school year, and was completed in the 2007-2008 school year.

There are three main areas we assess, followed by creating short and long-term goals:

  • Catholic Identity – assessing the school as a visible faith community rooted in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ, enriched by Catholic Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and lived Gospel values; enriched by the celebration of liturgy, sacraments, and prayer and evidenced in service to others.

  • Educational Issues – assessing that the school community is child-centered, and that the needs of the students are reflected in the practices and policies of the school.  Assessing that the school is committed to providing strong academic and developmental programs.  Assessing that the faculty and staff are faith-filled, dedicated, knowledgeable and competent in their profession and strive to meet the individual needs of the children.

  • Institutional Issues – assessing that the school is committed to fostering a safe and secure environment.  Assessing that the school is committed to supporting parents in their role as the first educators of their children and is sensitive to the needs and issues of the family.
