The spiritual atmosphere within Christ the King School is designed to build
upon the foundation laid by parents who encourage their families to pray and
worship together. We recognize the parents as being the principal educators
of each child and we strive to continue that education at school.
Two words that are very important to students at Christ the King School are Catholic and Christian. The teachings and truths of the Roman Catholic Church are part of our curriculum. Students are encouraged to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ each day and to treat others with love and respect.
Religious education begins in Preschool with Bible studies, simple prayers and songs, and continues throughout the students’ experience at Christ the King. Second graders receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Confirmation is administered in the upper grades.
Praying together as a class and as a school community also is part of our
daily routine. Teachers begin and end each day with prayer in the classroom.
Students in grades 1 through 8 attend Mass twice each week; students in
kindergarten attend on special occasions. In accordance with the church
seasons, students participate in Reconciliation services, Advent prayer
services, Lenten services and May Crowning. Students not of the Catholic
faith are required to attend Mass and other liturgical activities. |
The belief that we are all members of God’s family is integrated into the
CKS curriculum and extra- curricular activities. Students are encouraged to
make helping others, especially those less fortunate, a natural part of their
daily lives.
The belief that we are all members of God’s family is integrated into
the CKS curriculum and extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged
to make helping others, especially those less fortunate, a natural part of
their daily lives. Collections of food, gifts and money are shared with
people from as nearby as their own neighborhood to as far away as India or
Africa. Students donate their time and talents to projects such as holding
a Christmas party for disadvantaged children or collecting personal items
to donate to a women’s shelter.
Another extension of our religious education is a special liturgy at the Sunday 10 a.m. Mass for children who have not yet received their Holy Communion and a Preschool of Religion Class for children ages 3–5. In addition, children in grades 3–8 are invited to sing in the Children’s Choir which provides music for many school functions and the Saturday evening Mass. |
