The children can choose to perform a serious, duet, or humorous speech.

There are a total of four scheduled speech meets throughout the school year. Each meet is scheduled on a Saturday. The schedule is made and communicated near the beginning of each school year.

Each team member will schedule meeting times with his or her coach.

The moderator will choose a team to represent the school at the final meet.

The CKS drama club is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Meetings are Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Explore theatre through games, improv, scene work, and monologues. There are opportunities to write and get involved backstage. The idea is to have fun as you create!

We welcome parents who whould like to help out with play productions. We need volunteers to assist with set designs, props, program designs, and other areas. Call the school office if you'd like to help.

The game assists in developing an understanding of number concepts, number systems, factors and primes, order of operations, and simple algebraic equations.

The "Equations" club provides children at Christ the King with an opportunity to learn in a challenging and enjoyable environment, to experience the joy of friendly competition, and to test their math skills in a creative game.

The players do not need to be math whiz kids to play; the game requires many skills beyond those in math.

"Equations" players in each grade will gather weekly to play the game. Teams will be formed. An optional competition is held in early March at which teams from Christ the King can compete against other St. Louis Area teams.

A library volunteer can work during the open hours of 9:00 to 11:30 am and 12:45 to 2:30 pm every Monday to help children check in current library books, find new books and checkout their new choices. A volunteer who is more interested in re-shelving, repairing, or cataloging books can work out a schedule with the volunteer coordinator.

Parents picking up their children at the end of the school day pull into the front, Balson Avenue parking lot. The cars form five separate lanes of traffic marked by orange cones. All parents should follow the volunteers' requests and directives to ensure the safety of the children and to keep things moving smoothly. The parents park their cars and turn off their engines. The children are dismissed from the Balson entrance. The children walk to their cars. At approximately 3:05 p.m. a volunteer parent will ring a bell indicating that all children and parents must be in their cars or behind the chain (and off the parking lot) at the front door. The cars will exit one lane at a time, under the supervision of a volunteer traffic director.

One parent in each classroom will take a lead role to organize and disseminate information to the other classroom, room parent volunteers. The general duties involved in volunteering as a room parent are listed below.

• A head room parent will communicate with the teacher to determine any needs for classroom assistance.
• Room parents help organize classroom parties.
• They help organize field trips if the teacher requests assistance
• They help implement the telephone chain by making calls when requested by the school. The head room parent will let the others know when calls are necessary.
• The room parents communicate with the Home and School Association about school related issues if needed.
• They help organize one of the monthly teachers' lunches on the month assigned to the class.
• They also help the teacher with anything else they'd like to do to make it a great year for the class and school.

Sign-up sheets are posted at the annual Back to School Night. You may contact the classroom teacher if you are interested in becoming a room parent or you may contact the room parent coordinator with the Home and School association.

The school board is also responsible for facilitating communications between the school and families with a goal to obtain parental input for the school policies.

The volunteer time commitment primarily involves attending the monthly meetings and staffing the annual registration process. There may be additional time requirements for special projects if necessary. A volunteer is asked to remain on the board for a period of three years.

The children participate in action-oriented programs that fulfill the goals of scouting. The council's four area camps offer the scouts more than 8,000 acres of wilderness for a wide variety of outdoor programs including camping, hiking, swimming, boating, rappelling, rock climbing, ropes courses, and horseback riding.

We offer Cub Scouts for boys ages 6 to 10, Boy Scouts for boys ages 11 to 18, and Venture Scouts for children (boys and girls) ages 14 through 20.

All program activities are age-appropriate and based on four program goals; developing self-potential, relating to others, developing values, and contributing to society, as well as on the Girl Scout promise and law.

The school offers the following programs:

• Junior Scouts in grades 4 through 6
• Cadette Scouts in grades 7 and 8

Each troop's meeting schedule is unique. Some meet after school and some later in the evening. Some meet at school and others at their leader's homes. The frequency ranges from every other week to monthly.

The Athletic Association also sponsors a golf tournament each Spring as a fund-raising event. The money helps pay for equipment and uniforms and helps to keep the fees low. Volunteers are needed to organize and run this event. If you are interested in helping or organizing this event you can contact the association's chairperson.

The committee consists of a technology coordinator, parents, and parishioners with varying degrees of technical expertise to provide assistance to the school principal to plan, evaluate, recommend, implement and evaluate technology-related acquisitions and programs within the school. You may contact the technology coordinator for additional information on volunteer opportunities by calling the school office and leaving a message.

The association holds several meeting each year, which are open to all school and parish families. The organization also sponsors a variety of the school's fun events and fund-raisers each year.
