Monsignor Mike's Desk - December 3, 2017

What a birthday celebration/Mass Mob we experienced last Sunday!  If you were here last Sunday no explanation is necessary; if you were not, no explanation is possible.  The spirit of faith, community, reunion, and celebration were on grand display.

We are grateful to Bishop Michael Sheridan for presiding at the liturgy, and to Father Tim Foley for being present.  Fr Ditenhafer would have liked to have been there but his health prevented him from doing so.  Sister Rosella, who served here for 40 years, and a couple of other SIsters of Mercy joined in the celebration.  We were honored to have University City Mayor Shelly Welsch present and grateful for the proclamation issued in honor of the parish.

The song and music were outstanding, the grade school kids’ artwork that adorned the program was magnificent.  The deacons, ushers/greeters, servers, lectors, Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, art and environment of the sanctuary all added to the joyful and profound ceremonies.

The MRC was a beehive of reunion, visitation, and memory all the while enjoying the reception food and drink.  The grade school ambassadors gave many a tour to the curious and those reminiscing.

The bulletins over the past several weeks helped prepare us for the celebration with many photos of people, times and scenarios that helped us progress to this point.  Last week’s bulletin was a definite “keeper” with the many photos of days gone by.  The “birthday card” annual giving card and matching yard banner were very attractive and appealing as they conveyed our need as well as our celebration.

Thank you, one and all, who volunteered to make this a celebration for the ages.  Many of our guests who faithfully attend “mass mobs” praised our efforts, prayer, welcoming community spirit, and joy.

It was truly a moment of pride, celebration, and gratitude to Christ our King for the gift of faith and all good gifts.

May Christ the King reign in our lives!
